Recover South... What's New with Indie?

Close your eyes and picture this.... Monday night, beach side Fort Lauderdale, cool ocean breeze, late night dinner and drinks with great friends, sweet sounds of all your favorite songs, from all your favorite bands... LIVE! Where could this be? At the fancy Westin Shula's Restaurant and Bar.

I went to meet a good friend for some conversation, a drink (h20 was the choice for the night) and maybe to catch a little of the football game and was surprised to catch a pretty amazing up and coming band, Recover South. I can definitely say a highlight to any evening out is to hear great live music, and this was it!

Recover South was playing an array of musical covers, ranging from your typical bar favorites like Journey to some lesser know but equally as good hits like, my all time favorite, The Killers. My selling point was without a doubt when I heard the sweet sounds of "Mr. Brightside" streaming from the speakers into my ears. With a smile on my face, I was ready for more!

The ears of the local patrons were filled with sweet sounds streaming from the speakers of Indie Alternative Pop Rock covers along with one of their original songs, The Goodnight Chapter, a lyrical composure formed by the one and only gents of Recover South.

The band consists of 3 charismatic cousins paired with an amazing drummer to draw the attention of a crowd and get people up and out of their seats, even on a Monday night after a long day at the office! They have been working with music since they were 2 years old and more aggressively as a band for about 3 years ago. Steadily increasing their grounds, fan base and exposure, with opening for LMAFO being definitely something to mark down in the books.

Recover South has been working hard in the studios and is planning to come out with their first single in the next couple months followed shortly after by their very first album. Stop by Octoberfest on October 15th and you will see these handsome Italians taking stage and blaring it out for all of their old and new fans alike.

Reflect: Inner Artist 3- Discover YOUR Inner Artist!

How did you spend your Saturday night? It should have been at one of Miami’s best monthly traditions, Art Walk in the Arts District. If you did not get a chance to make it out, note, EVERY 2nd Saturday of the month, all of the local galleries in the wonderful artsy area outside of Downtown stay open later and feature great art, snacks, and drinks for locals and tourists alike to come and scope out.

This past Saturday just outside the doors of the distinct and unique boutique Plant the Future, I attended a one of a kind interactive paint party, Inner Artist. This cool and laid back event is hosted by 3 local artists: Pablo Ricatti, Alex “AB” Barrera, and Surge. These young artists with 3 different styles and flair guided those who attended to creating their own art! They provided the paint, canvas and sketched the outlines to their own masterpieces and allowing anyone who chose to participate to recreate the piece as THEY saw it. Best of all, at the end of the night you get to take your creation home with you!

The flow of the night was set by the Sexy, Soulful, and Groovy jams spun by DJ Stell*R, a local house DJ with a swift following building! His mixes, not your traditional fist pumping house grove, are unlike anything I have ever heard, original, inspiring and definitely pleasing to the ear and soul.

The ridiculous heat and sweat did not disrupt the success of the night as I think it is safe to say that Inner Artist 3 was definitely a star at this month’s Art Walk. There was a consistent flow and crowd of people coming in and out at all times, standing around observing, jumping in and painting and conversing with old, featured and new artists alike. New artists featured at Inner Artist 3 this past Saturday included: Alex Yanes, Joy Taylor, Eunique Fowler, Mona Ricatti, John “Deyer954” Terramoccia and Chad Bishop. All with different, individual and eye catching styles, each adding a different touch to the night.

“There is nothing like this out there” was the most heard comment of the night. And it is true! This is a one of a kind original event that was inspired by 3 artist who feel that art is a part of life and everyone has art inside them. This feeling was definitely proven fact on Saturday night with the massive turnout of participants and spectators starting with toddlers and up in age enjoying the ambiance of the night. Moms and dads, grandparents and children, couples and friends all came together to make a beautiful masterpiece, memory and reminder of their true artist that was discovered on Saturday night.

I will say the definite highlight of my night was seeing some of those who said they would not paint because “they were not creative” link up with the featured artists and not only attempt to paint, but GLOW at the end of the night once they saw the greatness that they were able to make. So, if you missed out on this Inner Artist, no worries, there will be another one, right around the corner. Here are the top 5 reasons to attend the next Inner Artist:

1. Its completely FREE! Anyone and everyone can come and draw, paint, and take home their work without spending a penny!
2. Unleash your creativity! If you don’t know where to start, one of the hosting or featured artist will take you by the hand and get you started. Trust me, you will be AMAZED with what you are holding inside of you!
3. Meet local and up and coming artists. New artwork but different artists will be featured at each event, so expand your art knowledge!
4. Its a cool, come as you please feel. You can come in your t-shirt and flops or dress to impress. Be yourself, show your style, all welcome and acceptable… It’s ART!
5. Check out the local art scene and discover some new restaurants, galleries and people right in your neighborhood. The arts district is definitely a fast growing great addition to the Miami Scene and will be a “place to be seen” …. Stay Tuned!
